World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51M watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
